2012 NDICE
CONFERENCE INFORMATION
Current information on the 2012
Conference is now posted on our
website. We apologize for the
delay and ask for your understanding
as we faced some rather challenging
technical difficulties. The
problems should now be resolved.
I invite you to join other Deacons and
their spouses from around the
country at this year’s NDICE
Conference. This is a great
opportunity to come together in
prayer (Masses, Morning and Evening
Prayer), attend some excellent
presentations that will assist us in
our ministries, and network with
brother deacons and their spouses.
This is the 39th annual National
Diaconate Institute for Continuing
Education (NDICE) Conference. The
2012 Conference will be held July
15-18 at Xavier University,
Cincinnati, Ohio. The theme of the
2012 Conference is: “Deacon: Bridge
to God’s People.” This year’s
presentations will look at ways we
are that bridge for others.
Bishop Ronald Gainer, Lexington KY returns
to NDICE and will preside at the
opening Mass on Sunday afternoon and
will give the key-note address
Sunday evening. On Monday, Deacon
Bill Ditewig will speak on Marriage
and also offer a reflection on
“Always our Children”, a document
from the USCCB's Committee on Family
Life. Fr. Brendan Moss OSB, one of
our highest rated presenters,
returns this year and will speak on
how the Word helps us to be a
Bridge. Annette Turner, wife of a
deacon, and Director of the Office
of Multicultural Ministries for the
Archdiocese of Louisville will look
at how we serve as bridge in a
culturally diverse society. Closing
out Monday’s presentations, Fr.
David Garcia of Catholic Relief
Services will explore how we are a
Bridge to those beyond our borders.
Tuesday will offer much for our reflection
as Shayne Duvall speaks on
Evangelization, Fr. Bill Garrott OP
on preaching. After lunch Emily
Cash Psy.D., of St. Luke’s
Institute, will look at ways we are
a Bridge in difficult economic
times. She will also speak at the
deacon wives session. The NDICE
business meeting finishes out the
afternoon. After a short break we
will gather for Evening Prayer
followed by a banquet dinner and the
ever popular “NDICE Follies”, which
you won’t want to miss.
Bishop Skylstad, a long time friend of the
Diaconate, will be the Wednesday
morning presenter, and will
celebrate the closing Mass at which
he will install NDICE officers for
the coming year.
Attendees at NDICE receive 20 CEU’s
(Continuing Education Units) which
meets continuing education
requirements of most dioceses.
Scholarships are available; contact
Deacon Hank Babin (see Registration
Form).
As an added plus this year, we will
be staying in the brand new Fenwick
Place Dorm and be eating in the 700
seat Hoff Dining Room on the ground
level of the dorm. I’ve had the
opportunity to tour the new facility
and eat in the new dining hall and
all I can say is WOW! I believe you
will be pleased.
We have a great Conference planned.
All we need now to make it complete
is you! Make plans now to attend
the 2012 NDICE Conference.
